Multiplying your efforts – the key to quantum leaps in your productivity.
At the end of the day there is only so much one person can do. To dramatically increase your productivity you need to multiply your efforts. This way you can take one action now that leads to large results in the future. Your effort is amplified in some way by other resources. All other productivity techniques can bring you to a certain point, but at some stage you reach a limit based on the inability to complete certain tasks alone.
A great example would be with a sales person. You can sell to one person and be amazingly efficient at it. You can achieve fantastic results. But if you are only ever talking to one person at a time you are limited. Let's take a look at some of the ways that you can multiply your efforts:
Hiring a team
Hiring a person to do something you were previously doing yourself is a very simple and powerful form of leverage. If you don't have the money to hire someone that should not necessarily stop you! You might be able to trade with another person. You might be able to get access to very low cost resources or interns to help you with your work.
Seminars and other presentations to multiple people at the same time
A simple concept, but basically instead of presenting to one person you present and sell to multiple people at the same time and multiply your efforts this way.
Web sites and other web technology
You can build a website to convey your ideas. It can include video and audio or just a written explanation from you. Then after it's built, instead of you needing to be there to explain it again and again, you can direct people to the site. This is a very powerful way to duplicate your efforts.
Another scenario is if your business has a fantastic sales person. There is really a limit to how many people they could see one-on-one. However, if you record their presentations, you can deliver them online via video or audio with slide presentations and enable them to present automatically to anyone who visits your web site.
Contacts and partnerships
Connect with other companies or individuals and utilize their resources to magnify your own productivity. If you have a great list of friends and contacts you can get a lot done with one phone call that would take a lot of time or impossible to achieve without those contacts.
Some questions to help you multiply your efforts
- Who can I partner with in a way that we both can benefit?
- What process do I have that is currently done manually that can be automated?
- How could I employ a web site, or utilize my web site better to reach more people in a smaller amount of time?
- What opportunities could I create to present information to multiple people at the same time?
- What am I doing right now that could be done by someone else? How can I get them to do it in a low cost way?
