Chronic Pain in Employees Causes Absenteeism, Lower Job Productivity and Job Loss

In a 2007-2008 survey of 4,000 employed adult Canadians, Nanos Research found that more than 18 per cent of the adult workers polled experience chronic pain. The results of this survey, reported by CanWest News Service in May 2009, indicate that pain may be crippling Canadian workplace productivity by significantly increasing employee absenteeism.

Use of Social Media During Work Is Rising

According to the Nielsen Company, a leading global information and media analyst, 17 percent of employee time spent online during August 2009 was devoted to social networking and blog sites, an increase of almost three times the time spent on such sites during August 2008.

Top 5 Time Wasters in the Sales Workplace

Kenneth Krogue, the President of InsideSales.com, discussed five of the top time-wasting practices of inside sales and lead generation personnel. His report, from November 2008, discusses a survey that updated research conducted in 2007-2008 by PeopleWise, a division of LexisNexis. Poor lead generation resources are the number one time waster. According to Mr. Krogue, cold calling kills productivity and a company's sales force may spend up to 40% of its time merely looking for someone to call. He suggests that the best practice is to invest in pre-qualified leads or lists.

Time Management Survey of Working Mothers

On September 18, 2008 Mom Masterminds reported the results of its 2008 Time Management Survey. All the survey respondents were working moms. It is not clear exactly how scientific the survey's results are, but the implications for time management from an entrepreneur's perspective are intriguing. Fully 15 per cent of the working moms questioned said that they are “terrible” at time management.
